Extended Abstract

Variety of degradation mechanisms affecting steam generator tubes makes steam generators as one of the critical components in the nuclear power plants. Timely detection and reliable sizing of tube damages are of prime importance to avoid possible tube rupture.

The most frequently applied examination technology is eddy current inspection by using standard bobbin coil probe. In order to provide better characterization of defect morphology many other advanced techniques are developed. Because of some bobbin coil disadvantages, those techniques are applied in examination of zones of particular interest such as top of tubesheet (PWR) or collector material examination (WWER).

INETEC successfully applies the most modern technology in eddy current examination of PWR and WWER type of steam generators. This article will present existing techniques, as well as, development of advanced examination techniques for both types of steam generators. Based on INETECīs huge experience, it will be given overview of INETECīs activities related to eddy current examination of steam generator tube bundle and collector materials of WWER type.
